You May Be Channeling Already

Ever had a thought arrive so suddenly…
That you actually stopped and wondered,
”…Where did that come from?”
Not because it sounded strange.
Because it felt wiser than anything you would’ve normally thought.
Or maybe you’ve been talking to someone…
Trying to comfort a friend…
Writing…
Creating…
Praying…
Driving…
Or even standing in the shower…
And suddenly the exact words appeared.
Not forced.
Not rehearsed.
They simply arrived.
I’ve experienced moments like that more times than I can count.
Sometimes while journaling.
Sometimes during meditation.
And sometimes while sitting with a client, where information came through that I couldn’t have logically pieced together on my own.
Those moments never made me feel powerful.
They made me feel incredibly humbled.
Because they reminded me that wisdom doesn’t always feel like something we create…
Sometimes…
It feels like something we receive.
So…
What exactly is channeling?
Forget Everything Hollywood Told You
Let’s clear something up first.
Channeling isn’t usually what Hollywood makes it look like.
No glowing eyes.
No mysterious voice suddenly taking over your body.
No floating six inches above the floor.
(Although that would definitely make Thanksgiving dinner unforgettable.)
For most people who believe they’ve experienced channeling…
It’s surprisingly ordinary.
Which is exactly what makes it so extraordinary.
It often feels like wisdom arriving before you’ve had time to think.
Like truth showing up faster than thought.
A knowing that appears so naturally…
You almost wonder whether it was yours to begin with.
An Experience Older Than History
Long before the word channeling ever existed…
Nearly every civilization described experiences that sound remarkably similar.
The prophets of the Hebrew Bible spoke of receiving divine messages.
Mystics described profound spiritual insight.
Kabbalists wrote about divine wisdom flowing into human consciousness.
Indigenous elders spoke of guidance from ancestors and the spirit world.
Shamans.
Oracles.
Seers.
Saints.
Monks.
Mediums.
Different cultures.
Different languages.
Different symbols.
Yet they all pointed toward a remarkably similar experience:
That human beings are capable of receiving wisdom that feels greater than ordinary thinking.
Whether someone believes that wisdom comes from God…
Angels…
Spirit guides…
The higher self…
The soul…
Or another source entirely…
The experience itself has fascinated humanity for thousands of years.
What Does It Actually Feel Like?
This is my favorite part.
Because it’s usually much quieter…
And much more ordinary…
Than people expect.
It can feel like suddenly knowing exactly what someone needs to hear.
Receiving an answer before you’ve finished asking the question.
Writing words that seem to flow effortlessly onto the page.
Or seeing a situation with crystal clarity after feeling completely stuck.
Maybe that’s why I’ve always smiled when I think about That’s So Raven.
Remember how Raven would suddenly stop…
Have a vision…
And everything around her would completely change?
Obviously Disney made it dramatic.
But I think they captured something people quietly experience all the time:
Sometimes insight arrives unexpectedly.
One moment you’re living your life…
The next…
Something shifts.
Not because the world changed…
Because your awareness did.
A Clear Vessel
One of the biggest misconceptions about channeling is that it only happens during meditation or complete silence.
Personally…
I don’t believe that.
I’ve experienced meaningful insight in quiet moments…
But I’ve also experienced it while speaking with people.
Working.
Writing.
Walking.
Living.
Many spiritual traditions describe channeling as becoming a clear vessel rather than an empty mind.
It’s less about escaping everyday life…
And more about becoming present enough to recognize wisdom whenever it arrives.
Sometimes it comes in stillness.
Sometimes it arrives in the middle of ordinary life.
Neither makes it any less meaningful.
Discernment Is Sacred
I also believe something else is just as important.
Discernment.
Not every random thought is a spiritual message.
If it were…
Half my grocery list would probably qualify as ancient wisdom.
Real spiritual growth isn’t about believing everything.
It’s about learning to notice…
Reflect…
Question…
And remain humble.
Channeling, at least in my experience, has never been about proving anything.
It’s never been about feeling special.
It’s about remaining open while keeping both feet firmly on the ground.
Perhaps That’s Why It Continues to Fascinate Us
Maybe channeling isn’t about hearing a different voice.
Maybe it’s finally recognizing one you’ve always had.
Maybe it’s one of the many ways human beings experience connection with something greater than themselves.
Whether you believe that source is God…
Divine consciousness…
Spirit…
The universe…
Or something we simply don’t have language for yet…
One thing has remained remarkably consistent throughout history:
People continue having experiences that leave them saying,
“I don’t know exactly what happened…
…but I know it changed me.”
Perhaps that’s the real mystery.
Not whether channeling exists.
But how often wisdom finds us when we least expect it.
